“Modern-day slavery is the largest human rights crisis of our time, but mainstream narratives focus on rescue, rather than survivors' strengths and their journeys to freedom. ‘Reclaiming Freedom’ features seven survivors sharing their stories of resilience, in their own words.”

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–EverFree, a nonprofit organization that supports survivors of human trafficking and exploitation through data-driven, survivor-led solutions, premiered its short film “Reclaiming Freedom” this past Saturday, October 19, at the Sarah Robarts Art Studio in Torrance. The event brought together advocates, survivors and supporters in a powerful celebration of solidarity and hope. Now available for public viewing, the film invites audiences worldwide to witness the resilience of survivors who turn their experiences into powerful advocacy, highlighting their journey of recovery and empowerment. Watch “Reclaiming Freedom” now.

“Modern-day slavery is the largest human rights crisis of our time, but mainstream narratives focus on rescue, rather than survivors’ strengths and their journeys to freedom. ‘Reclaiming Freedom’ features seven survivors sharing their stories of resilience, in their own words,” said Kelsey Morgan, Co-Founder and CEO of EverFree. “The film inspires deeper understanding and motivates audiences to join us in working towards a world where all are free.”

Produced by the acclaimed Team Win Studios, the 10-minute film challenges misconceptions by spotlighting the personal journeys of survivors who channel their experiences into their work raising awareness and supporting other survivors. “Reclaiming Freedom” emphasizes the importance of comprehensive support systems that address the long-term needs of survivors, advocating for a shift from a rescue-centric narrative to one of ongoing empowerment.

The premiere featured a panel discussion that included the survivors featured in the film as well as the filmmakers. The panel addressed the complexities of exploitation, the significance of self-determination in recovery, and the necessity of survivor-informed support frameworks to provide the tools needed for independence and rebuilding.

This premiere is part of EverFree’s 2024-2025 Survivor Art Tour, an annual initiative celebrating the artistry, expression, and indomitable determination of human trafficking survivors. The tour aims to raise awareness, inspire action, and foster a global community dedicated to supporting survivors’ journeys toward freedom and empowerment.

Just as the film amplifies survivor voices, EverFree’s Freedom Lifemap empowers survivors to take charge of their own paths to freedom. Launched earlier this year in collaboration with UC Irvine’s Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation and a global cohort of survivors, Freedom Lifemap is the first online tool built for human trafficking survivors and responders. It collects critical data on survivor experiences and needs, shaping effective aftercare services and informing global prevention policies.
