Knowing the truth is the first step to creating change. There is a well documented connection between the chocolate we consume and child labour. It’s estimated that as many as 2 million children are involved in dangerous work in cocoa-growing regions of the world where they are vulnerable to trafficking.

Connect the Dots

Learn which chocolate companies are leading the way in ethical practices and sourcing slavery-free cocoa. Here are a few resources to get started: 

• Slave Free Chocolate provides a list of ethical chocolate companies 

• The Chocolate ScoreCard ranks chocolate companies for their performance in traceability, child labor and more. 
• Ethical Candy (Fair Trade America) for a list of fair trade chocolate

Use Your Purchasing Power 

Look for the fair trade symbol when you’re out buying your halloween candy. It’s not a foolproof designation, but many experts agree it’s a good place to start.
